How to look great in clothes for your shape & size.

'Buying clothes is easy. We all love to go shopping.

Knowing what looks good on you and suits your shape and size though is a fine art.

From my own experience of offering advice on personal styling to women of all ages and sizes, the most common problem appears to be how to understand your own natural shape, colouring and size, and then find a look that suits you as an individual.

For a lot of women, this is not an easy task. Just finding the time to simply shop for clothes if you're over a certain size can be time consuming, frustrating and difficult especially if you don't understand how your own unique shape interacts with the styles that are currently available.

Plus it's so easy to get it wrong and we all know what happens then. Your purchase stays hanging in the wardrobe in your bedroom.

It looked great in the shop window but on you at home? Well, let's just remember how many of us have made those kind of shopping mistakes?

It's an embarrassing fact that at least 75% of female shoppers spend money on clothes they will never wear.

To help address this problem, I have now written a Free Fashion & Style Guide (4.65MB PDF) which you can download and read at your own leisure. It explains in detail how to identify your horizontal and vertical body shape, which style of clothes will suit your shape and size, how to dress for your lifestyle and career, what to avoid wearing, how to plan the perfect wardrobe, which colours to choose, how to choose clothes on a budget, why today's fashion does not work for so many women, plus much more.

Enjoy reading and please feel free to share the guide with your friends.

Career or Power Dressing................What Are The Rules?

Keep it simple is the best advice and don't overdo it. Times have changed and so have people's attitudes towards dress codes. Having said this wearing clothes designed to impress in the workplace is essential. Getting it right is an art form. It also depends on what you do for job, how you want others to see you and it's also about the message you want to send out. Remember that your clothes make you visible. People will form judgements and opinions based on what you wear. It's all part of human nature.

Back in the 90's, power dressing was mostly a structured black or grey skirt or trousers and a jacket. Today, it doesn't need to be quite so formal but you still need to be careful because what you wear impacts on how others see you. You don't want to appear intimidating or threatening to colleagues, even if you are the boss. But you still need to look confident and professional. Ideally, your choice of career should match your choice about what you wear if you want to be taken seriously, blend in and even get picked for promotion. Your personality comes second in the workplace so big patterns and bold designs should be left at home. Career fashion does not generally follow the high street fashion trends so you should not allow your fashion sense to dominate your choices when it comes to work wear. The main rule is to keep it stylish and comfortable, yet simple. You want to be noticed for your ability and skill not for what you're wearing. While power dressing is about standing out in the crowd and being taken seriously, it needs to be done in a way that others can aspire to and respect.

Today's style of power dressing is about not being flashy or up to the minute with the latest trends on the catwalk. Thankfully it's also a lot less formal than it once was so you no longer have to stick to the boring blacks, navy and grey of yesterday. Simpler, well styled, low maintenance looks teamed with softer and fresher colours look much more welcoming. Accessories are key to any outfit choice and ladies, the best news is that shoes make or break how you look to your world audience. Flat shoes are a NO NO. So are stilettos and high fashion styles like platforms. To be seen in the workplace and to give you a more noticeably erect posture, especially if you're height challenged, always wear flattering but comfortable shoes with medium heels.

Remember, how you dress at work influences how others see you. If you're chasing promotion and want to be seen, aim to impress for success by following a few basic rules for today's power dressing styles.
